Johnson C. Smith University won a $30,000 grant from The Home Depot as part of its Retool Your School Contest. The award was announced during a hybrid ceremony in Atlanta to celebrate the participating schools and announce the 30 winners on April 26, 2022.

Johnson C. Smith University mourns the passing of Cary Mitchell ’83. He was a dedicated alumnus who worked faithfully to advance his alma mater. We are proud of his accomplishments as a renowned clothing designer, including creating the look of the NBA Charlotte Bobcat’s uniform. He made his mark as the personal designer to many famous athletes and celebrities.

JCSU Receives $50,000 from Harris Teeter for Campus Food Pantry

Johnson C. Smith University received a $50,000 gift from Harris Teeter to support the campus food pantry in tackling food insecurity among students. The gift, which will be spread over five years, is part of Harris Teeter’s commitment to combat foot insecurity at five Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the grocery chain’s market areas.

Adams names President Armbrister as guest to the State of the Union Address

Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) is uplifting Clarence D. “Clay” Armbrister, the 14th president of Johnson C. Smith University as her Hometown Hero virtual guest to President Biden’s State of the Union Address to Congress on Tuesday. Armbrister is currently leading efforts to invest in and improve Charlotte’s West Side, both at JCSU and along the Beatties Ford Road corridor, that have been made possible by the American Rescue Plan.

Criminology Alumna Locks Down JCSU Partnership Opportunities with Mecklenburg County Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board

Niya Culbreth ’22 was wrapping up her senior year, prepared to relax before crossing the stage at JCSU to receive her diploma.

JCSU Receives $375,000 from PNC Foundation for Entrepreneurship Hub

Johnson C. Smith University today received a $375,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to enhance entrepreneurship education. JCSU was one of five Historically Black Colleges and Universities to receive support from PNC Foundation which announced today more than $2 million in grants to five HBCUs in North Carolina to establish the PNC North Carolina HBCU Initiative.

Maurice Flowers Appointed Head Football Coach at JCSU

Johnson C. Smith University announced today the appointment of Maurice Flowers as head coach of the Golden Bulls football team. Flowers, a 1996 graduate of JCSU, was selected after a national search. He most recently served as head football coach at Fort Valley State University.

Johnson C. Smith University alumni have an undying love for the University. They continue to give back through time, treasure and talent. For the second consecutive year, alumni contributed more than one million dollars for university programs and student scholars. These contributions equaled one quarter of the Division of Institutional Advancement gifts for fiscal year 2021.
