The University welcomes admission inquiries from international students. Whether you are applying as a first-time freshman, transfer, or graduate student, international students should complete an admissions application three months before the beginning of the term in which they intend to enroll.

International students must submit the following:

International Student Admission

Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) welcomes applications from international students. Applicants are considered international if they are not U.S. citizens, dual citizens, or permanent residents. International students are encouraged to apply at least three months in advance of the semester they plan to enroll. Admission standards are based on the freshman, transfer, or graduate criteria, depending on the applicant’s academic status.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

  • Credential Evaluation: Official course-by-course evaluation (with GPA) by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or AICE; sent directly to JCSU.
  • Proof of Secondary/ Postsecondary Completion: Verification of graduation from a high school, secondary school, or postsecondary institution.
  • English Proficiency:
    • TOEFL: minimum score of 520 (paper-based) or 68 (internet-based).
    • SAT Evidence-Based Reading/Writing score of 480 or higher (freshmen only).
    • Exemption: TOEFL may be waived if two transferrable English Composition credits are earned at an accredited institution.
  • Financial Documentation: Declaration/Certification of Finance and a certified bank or sponsor statement verifying funds for tuition, fees, and living expenses.
  • Passport Identification Page: Required for SEVIS and visa processing.
  • Program-Specific Requirements: Portfolios, auditions, or prerequisites where applicable.
