The Johnson C. Smith University Golden Bull Herd Connection is designed to provide families the information they need, when they need it.
This resource will help JCSU families stay engaged and focused on what matters most: your student's success.
Parent & Family Weekend
Join us for JCSU Family/Parent Weekend, April 17–19, 2026, a special opportunity to reconnect with your student, experience the spirit of campus, and create meaningful memories together through welcoming touchpoints, engaging activities, and signature moments that celebrate your student’s journey and your place in the JCSU family. Weekend highlights include a scavenger hunt for a top-tier prize, brunch, followed by a church service in the chapel with Pastor Brandon White, offering a powerful space for gratitude, reflection, and togetherness as we gather in community.
The registration period begins on March 2.
Dear Golden Bull Families,
It is an honor to welcome you to Johnson C. Smith University, where every student begins their Golden Journey. We are grateful that you have entrusted us with your student’s education and growth. Whether they are just starting out or building momentum, your role in their success is invaluable.
We know students do best when their families stay engaged. Your encouragement, your presence at the right moments, and your belief in their potential make a difference that can’t be measured by grades alone. In my role as Assistant Director for First-Year and Second-Year Experience, Family Engagement, and Living Learning Communities, I see every day how strong family connections help students transition, persist, and thrive.
Supporting Your Student’s Golden Journey
Here are a few ways you can continue guiding them from wherever you are:
- Set clear expectations. Let your student know you believe in their ability to rise to challenges—and remind them to use the many JCSU resources available.
- Stay connected. Explore our website and family resources, and make sure your contact information is up to date so you don’t miss newsletters or reminders.
- Encourage advising and coaching. Students can schedule meetings with their Success Coach or advisor through BullsNav. These check-ins keep students on track with academics, planning, and career goals.
- Celebrate involvement. Clubs, organizations, and campus traditions help students feel at home and gain valuable leadership skills.
- Balance curiosity and independence. Ask about their classes and new experiences, while also giving them the space to grow on their own.
Golden Bull Herd Connection
To make this easier, we created the Golden Bull Herd Connection, our family newsletter. Each issue is designed to give you what you really need: updates tailored to your student’s classification, where they’re from, their financial aid status, and even their housing situation. Think of it as your family’s inside track to JCSU.
Staying Engaged Together
You’ll keep hearing from us through emails, social media, our website, and of course, the Golden Bull Herd Connection. Upcoming issues will also highlight important academic dates such as financial clearance, midterms, and spring registration, so you can help your student plan ahead.
