North Carolina legislation requires all employers to verify that newly hired individuals are authorized to work in the United States and to complete an Employment Verification (Form I-9) for each new employee. Newly hired employees will be required to provide legally acceptable proof of their identity and authorization to work in the US within 3 business days of their first day.
E-Verify is an internet-based system operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA) that allows participating employers to electronically verify the employment eligibility of new hires and the validity of their Social Security Numbers.
Through participation in the E-Verify program, Johnson C. Smith University electronically verifies the employment eligibility and Social Security Number validity of all new hires. Please review the items related to E-Verify participation English/Spanish and the Right to Work Posters English/Spanish for more information.”
Employment is contingent upon the new employee providing documents verifying U.S. citizenship or, for aliens, documents verifying legal permission to work in the United States. An applicant’s acceptability for positions requiring use of a university vehicle is contingent upon verification of a valid driver’s license as well as a driving record that meets the requirements of the university’s Risk Management Policy.
Promotion from within is encouraged whenever qualified university employees are available and express interest in the vacancy.
