Charlotte, N.C./June 2026 – The Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) informed Johnson C. Smith University of their decision to extend our accreditation and the institution’s probationary status for a second year, challenging us to continue our upward trajectory of improvements and to demonstrate sustained progress.
As we reflect on the decision, we remain steadfast in our commitment to grow as an institution of higher learning. In fact, we are happy for the continued partnership with SACSCOC to help the institution maintain long-term sustainability and compliance. Phase II of our journey comes after a year marked by major accomplishments at JCSU including: a clean financial audit, stronger internal controls, the adoption of new policies, stabilized enrollment and retention, increased internships, global academic opportunities, fundraising milestones, increased alumni participation, and championship athletics.
The foundation for our institutional future has never been brighter, and we are grateful to our students, faculty, staff, alumni, partners, and friends of the university for the unrelenting support. We remain committed to serving our students and to being an anchor institution in Charlotte’s Historic West End community.
