CHARLOTTE, N.C./September 11 - Eight Johnson C. Smith University scholars participated in the President's Student Cohort for the Sports, Entertainment, & Business Experience (SEBE) Foundation. This group of vibrant JCSU scholars represented the College of Business and Professional Studies, namely its Department of Health and Human Performance's Sport Management program and the Department of Business Administration's Business Administration program.
Through the SEBE, these scholars had the privilege of kicking off the 2026-2027 National Football League (NFL) season, under the leadership of Dr. BerNadette Lawson-Williams, Professor of Sport Management, as well as Coordinator/Founder of JCSU's online Sport Management & Esports and Gaming Trifecta, the first at an HBCU.
This meaningful three-day immersive experience provided them with a glimpse into the daily operations of four different corporations located in Charlotte, NC. They were also exposed to innumerable career pathways that truly enhanced their understanding of the unlimited opportunities in sport that are available to them, not to mention the opportunity to network with current and former NFL executives, like Ted Crews, Special Advisor to the President/CEO & Chief Administrative Officer for the Chicago Bears, as well as former athletes such as
FOX Sports NFL game analyst and newly inducted Pro Hall of Famer, Sports Drew Brees.
The SEBE Foundation, a workforce development non-profit focused on connecting college students to career opportunities across sports, entertainment, media, communications, business, technology and corporate America, is the brainchild of Avis Roper, the Founder & CEO of the Sports Bridge Consultant Agency and an HBCU alumnus of South Carolina State University.
