Oralia Washington Achieves Milestone with CIAA Sports Information Directors Association
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and its Sports Information Directors Association (SIDA) recently conducted their biennial election for officer positions, which produced historic results. Jolisa Williams of Shaw University and Romanda Noble-Watson of Claflin University were re-elected as president and secretary, respectively, while Oralia Washington of Johnson C. Smith University was voted in as the new vice president.
Alexys Gabriel gets hands-on training from U.S. Representatives
The pandemic didn’t stop Alexys Gabriel ‘22 from gaining experience needed to fulfill her dreams of a job on Capitol Hill. The junior, who majors in business administration with a concentration in marketing, spent the summer as a congressional intern in the House of Representatives, dividing her time between Representative Alma Adams [NC-D-12] and Representative Mark Walker [NC-R-06].

Ahead of the fall 2020 semester, Johnson C. Smith University is taking top honors in a new survey released by Zippia. According to the career expert site, Charlotte’s HBCU is the best small college in the state when it comes to job placement for students.
JCSU Board Chair featured for her leadership, philanthropy and family history of breaking barriers
August is Black Philanthropy Month, a time to recognize the importance of Black philanthropists in advancing Black organizations, institutions and causes. Shirley J. Hughes, the first woman to serve as chair of the Johnson C. Smith University Board of Trustees, is a noted philanthropist in her hometown of Minneapolis and endows a scholarship at JCSU. She was inducted in JCSU’s Golden Bull Giving Society, which honors donors who have given from $100,000 to $499,000 to the University.

Johnson C. Smith University Sport Management Program nationally ranked
Another reason to Hold High the Gold and Blue! Johnson C. Smith University's Sport Management Program ranks #17 on the 2020 Best Colleges for Sports Management in America list, according to Niche. In addition, JCSU is listed as the third best Sport Management Program in the Carolinas and the second best in North Carolina. The University is the only HBCU in the top 20 of 299 schools.

Golden Bull Legacy: Three-generation alumna shares her journey to success
Upon graduating from Johnson C. Smith University in 1994, Dr. Regina Boyd ‘94, a three-year generation alumna, began working in the CMS system as a kindergarten teacher at Collinswood Elementary School. After teaching at Collinswood, she became part of the leadership team and assisted with the establishment of Collinswood Dual Language Academy.
