JCSU Receives $375,000 from PNC Foundation for Entrepreneurship Hub
Johnson C. Smith University today received a $375,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to enhance entrepreneurship education. JCSU was one of five Historically Black Colleges and Universities to receive support from PNC Foundation which announced today more than $2 million in grants to five HBCUs in North Carolina to establish the PNC North Carolina HBCU Initiative.
Maurice Flowers Appointed Head Football Coach at JCSU
Johnson C. Smith University announced today the appointment of Maurice Flowers as head coach of the Golden Bulls football team. Flowers, a 1996 graduate of JCSU, was selected after a national search. He most recently served as head football coach at Fort Valley State University.

Johnson C. Smith University alumni have an undying love for the University. They continue to give back through time, treasure and talent. For the second consecutive year, alumni contributed more than one million dollars for university programs and student scholars. Smith University for the kick-off of a $250 million community-wide partnership to advance racial equity in Charlotte. Johnson C. Smith University will receive $80 million from the initiative to help the University transform into a top-tier, career-focused HBCU.
Keiona Marshall receives Luther and Mary Ida Vandross Scholarship
Keiona Marshall ’22 was awarded a $5,000 scholarship by the Philadelphia Foundation, the organization which oversees the Luther and Mary Ida Vandross Scholarship. It is the highest amount awarded for the scholarship.
JCSU students teach children the ABCs of business
Students in the Public Speaking and Communications class mentored and taught young entrepreneurs through a virtual service learning project in partnership with the Small Impressions Child Development Center in Taylors, S.C. During summer 2021, the children created their own businesses such as making personalized tumbler cups, setting up thrift stores, selling tie-dye t-shirts and even a car wash.

JCSU named Top 30 HBCU and a top performer on social mobility
Johnson C. Smith University's 2022 U.S. News and World Report rankings show proof of the positive momentum happening on campus. In the Historically Black Colleges and Universities category, JCSU climbed six spots to #30 (tie). It was good enough for JCSU to remain the highest ranked private HBCU in North Carolina. For the top performers in social mobility at national liberal arts institutions, JCSU catapulted from #178 to #13.
