University Choir plans Spring concert and fundraiser

Charlotte, N.C. / April 1, 2021 - The Johnson C. Smith University Concert Choir will continue to entertain and delight audiences with a Virtual Spring Concert and fundraiser in April.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the members of the choir have continued to share their talents with two members participating in the Crown Jewels Chapter of The Links, Inc., Signature Arts Program back in March and with a Virtual Christmas Vespers Service that ended the Fall 2020 semester and kicked-off the winter holiday season with glorious sounds.

“Viewers will continue to hear diverse repertoire styles of choral and solo music from choir members and alumni choir members,” said Dr. Shawn-Allyce White, director of the University concert choir, when asked what viewers could expect from this upcoming performance.

The spring concert will also serve as a fundraiser for the choir, with the hopes of raising $19,080. That amount is a tribute to 1908, the year Dr. Thomas Alexander Long, a JCSU professor and director of Music from 1907-1934, formed the Biddle University Quartet, the first organized musical group on campus.

If you would like to give to this campaign, please go to www.jcsu.edu/give and designate “Choir” as your gift. The money raised will go to operational costs for the choir, including travel and performances as well as financial assistance for students in the choir.

The Virtual Spring Concert will take place Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 7 p.m. via the University’s YouTube Channel. Please log on to www.jcsu.edu to view the concert.
