CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 22, 2019 – Melvin Crispell III, the Season 9 winner of BET’s Sunday Best, brought his powerhouse vocals to Biddle Hall Monday, October 21, 2019 for Johnson C. Smith’s homecoming gospel explosion.

Crispell, a Charlotte resident, was happy to minister the word to students, particularly those who may only look at religion through a traditional lens.

“I want them to know there’s other ways to come to God than the typical church experience. We can also have fun and give God glory,” he said.

Crispell, a younger gospel singer, is using his platform to target the younger generation.

“I want them to have the same views and the same passion I have about their God,” Crisp emphasized.

In addition to his songs, he connects with young people by sharing his own life experiences. Crispell has used his platform to share the how he’s dealt with losing both his parents by the age of 18.

“I want them to understand the things I’ve been through and still be able to press through the dark days,” Crispell emphasized.

Crispell is living his dream after winning Sunday Best; traveling the nation, sharing the word through gospel music. Before taking the stage, he shared words of wisdom for students at JCSU, “The only thing that is going to stop you from reaching your dreams is you.”
