CHARLOTTE, NC – Johnson C. Smith University proudly congratulates Amontae Wray, a Biology major, on being selected as a recipient of the Foundation For The Carolinas EFC Scholarship Fund . Mr. Wray has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement, leadership, commitment to the life sciences, and dedication to improving health outcomes through a future career in medicine.
The Foundation For The Carolinas EFC Scholarship Fund supports rising junior and senior students at Johnson C. Smith University majoring in Biology, Chemistry, or Public Health who demonstrate academic promise, a strong commitment to the life sciences, and an interest in pursuing careers that positively impact the health and well-being of communities.

Student Biography
Amontae Wray
Amontae Wray is a Biology major at Johnson C. Smith University who is dedicated to academic excellence, leadership, and service. Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, he relocated to the United States three years ago to pursue his undergraduate education in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Throughout his collegiate journey, Amontae has distinguished himself as both a scholar and leader. He currently serves as the Captain of the Johnson C. Smith University Men's Track and Field Team , demonstrating discipline, perseverance, and the ability to inspire others. In addition, he is an active member of the Minority Association for Pre-Med Students (MAPS) , where he continues to strengthen his commitment to the medical profession.
His academic and professional experiences have provided him with a strong foundation in the life sciences. Through the end of Summer 2026, Amontae is gaining invaluable hands-on clinical experience while working alongside healthcare professionals and learning from experienced mentors at Atrium Health . These experiences continue to deepen his understanding of patient care and prepare him for the next stage of his academic journey.
Amontae is expected to graduate from Johnson C. Smith University in May 2027. Following graduation, he plans to pursue a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree , with the goal of becoming a physician dedicated to improving health outcomes and serving diverse communities.
His receipt of the $10,000 Foundation For The Carolinas EFC Scholarship recognizes not only his academic promise but also his unwavering commitment to leadership, service, and excellence in the life sciences.
