Johnson C. Smith University has not one, but two Forbes under 30 Scholars. Ramoya Grandison ’19, and Anthony Edwards ’21, attended the Forbes under 30 annual summit in Detroit October 27 – 30, 2019, where the best young leaders, founders and creators come together to connect, learn, teach and build.

North Carolina has one of the country’s largest military veteran populations. Those who choose to attend post-graduate institutions are not your typical students; they’re usually older, may have more responsibilities and often require more flexibility to obtain a degree.

It is with a heavy heart that Johnson C. Smith University acknowledges the passing of Floyd D. Young, founder and president of FDY, Inc. Young’s food service company provided service to students, faculty, staff and guests at JCSU for 30 years.

Melvin Crispell III, the Season 9 winner of BET’s Sunday Best, brought his powerhouse vocals to Biddle Hall Monday, October 21, 2019 for Johnson C. Smith’s homecoming gospel explosion. 

Crispell, a Charlotte resident, was happy to minister the word to students, particularly those who may only look at religion through a traditional lens. 

During the Oct. 10 volleyball game against Livingstone, multiple departments, including Athletics, Counseling Services, Campus Police, University Communications and Marketing and community health organizations came together to shed light on mental wellness for World Mental Health Day.

Three McNair students took the stage at the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) McNair Research Conference in Albuquerque. Dr. Jonathan Smalls, Director of McNair Scholarship Program, selected Aria Springfield, Emoni Lewis, and Kneadee Jackson to represent Johnson C. Smith University.

Johnson C. Smith University is taking top honors in a new poll. SR Education Group released its 10th Annual Best Online Colleges in the Nation, and JCSU is taking the #9 spot in North Carolina.

Venessa Roy ’08 has been a firefighter for the last 10 years. It wasn’t the career she envisioned for herself, but the one she is making big achievements in. The Alumna is the first African American engineer (driver/operator) with the Charlotte Fire Department.

Residents of McCrorey Heights, one Johnson C. Smith University’s surrounding neighborhoods created by Dr. Henry L. McCrorey (class of 1893), former JCSU president 1907-1947, welcomed JCSU students and alumni to its community for a homecoming celebration. Smithites old and new enjoyed music, food and games October 5, 2019 after the Golden Bulls win against Lincoln University.
