COVID-19 has hurt many small businesses across the world. However, business owners, like JCSU alumna Sa’Keithia Hamond ’15 have proven they are resilient during this crisis.

Johnson C. Smith University is making every effort possible to help students during the COVID-19 pandemic. April 21, 2020 the campus food pantry, Single Stop, resumed its operations in an effort to assist students during this crisis. 

Johnson C. Smith University received three awards at the 2020 HBCUgrow LEAD Conference on April 7, 2020. Dr. Laura Colson McLean, dean of Metropolitan College of Professional Studies, and two JCSU students participated in the virtual conference and shared their involvement with Road to Hire, a partnership with Red Ventures and winner of the Platinum Choice LEAD Innovation Award.

Johnson C. Smith University announces the appointment of Dr. Davida Loren Haywood as vice president for Student Affairs (VPSA). Haywood, a 1998 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, was selected after an extensive national search. As VPSA, she will be the chief officer responsible for developing a comprehensive program of services for traditional, non-traditional and graduate students in areas including housing and residential life, student engagement, counseling, leadership development, health, and student conduct.

The challenges brought on by COVID-19 has affected the Johnson C. Smith University community, just as it has other institutions and communities across the world.

The COVID-19 pandemic is changing our everyday lives; including the way we work. Medical professionals, truck drivers and grocery store employees are among some of the professionals deemed essential and continuing to work daily. Also included in that group, journalists.

After an extensive national search, Johnson C. Smith University announces the appointment of Dr. Karen D. Morgan as senior vice president for Academic Affairs (SVPAA).

It is with tremendous sorrow that Johnson C. Smith University shares the loss of Fred "Curly" Neal, a 1975 alumnus who was a former member of the Harlem Globetrotters and the Golden Bulls basketball team. 

Johnson C. Smith University announces the appointment of Rochelle D. King as director of Financial Aid. King currently serves as assistant director of Financial Aid at Livingstone College where she is responsible for budgetary compliance, program disbursements, and staff training. She will assume her new role at JCSU on April 1.

The CIAA tournament is a time for student athletes to shine on and off the court; and this year’s, Student Athlete Empowerment Symposium offered some Johnson C. Smith University student-athlete leaders the opportunity to fellowship and discuss the importance of mental health and the 2020 Census.
