Guangzhou, China/January 12, 2018 - On January 12, 2018, Sherese Duncan, instructor of Entrepreneurial Studies and Marketing, and Terik Tidwell, director of STEM Innovation, presented “Inclusive Entrepreneurship and Innovation” to the directors and faculty of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the maker space of Guangdong Baiyun University in Guangzhou, China. The presentation centered on the philosophy and practice of entrepreneurship and STEM Innovation programs — especially how students’ conceptual framework is changed.

“Duncan and Tidwell’s talk sparked a great deal of interest with our Chinese partners, who were eager to exchange ideas,” said Dr. Matthew M. DeForrest, American director of the Guangdong Baiyun University Center on American Race and Culture and JCSU professor of English.

“These exchanges are critical as JCSU continues to build our partnership. They let us share the ideas and practices that benefit our students and our faculty and appreciate subtle cultural differences that are increasingly important in a global setting,” DeForrest said.

The trip, which included DeForrest, Duncan, Tidwell, and Anna Wood, assistant director of Research Development and International Relations in JCSU’s Government Sponsored Programs and Research division, was funded by an American Cultural Center Grant from the US Embassy in Beijing and from a grant by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
