Charlotte enjoys Evening with Santa at JCSU

CHARLOTTE, N.C./Dec. 1, 2018 – The holiday spirit was alive at JCSU during Residence Life and the Student Government Association’s “An Evening with Santa.”

The event, held Saturday Dec. 1, 2018, brought dozens of children and their families from nearby Bruns Elementary, Charlotte Bilingual Preschool and the surrounding neighborhoods to enjoy a culturally resonant evening with Santa, Mrs. Claus and JCSU students as Santa’s elves.

Every child had the opportunity to take a photo with an African-American Santa and receive gifts gathered during a month-long campus toy drive. Guests enjoyed snacks while becoming acquainted with campus and historic Biddle Memorial Hall. The wonder of Christmas was evident as the children’s faces lit up like Christmas trees.

The evening brought together Congressman Clyburn, Charlotte icon and former Mayor Harvey Gantt, and Johnson C. Smith University President Valerie Kinloch, Ph.D., for a conversation that explored the past while challenging attendees to think critically about the future.
