Biography

A Native (Narragansett) and African (NE Nigeria) American woman born and raised in Queens, New York City, Ms. Billups moved to Charlotte, NC, in March of 2002 with her family. She attended Johnson C. Smith University as part of the Inaugural Metropolitan-Adult graduating class of 2013 (cum laude). While completing her undergraduate degree in Criminology Studies, she also worked full-time as a front desk Campus Police presence at the then newly built Mosaic Village. After graduation, Ms. Billups, began working in JCSU's Residence Life Department as the Residence Hall Coordinator for New Residence Hall from 2013-2014. Ms. Billups would go on to apply and be accepted into Teach for America's 2015 cohort, spending that summer in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a reading teacher for rising 1st graders, which also gave her the opportunity to stand on the sacred grounds of what used to be Black Wall Street. Ms. Billups found her way back into the field of Criminology as a certified NC State Telecommunications Officer for UNCSA's Campus Police Department in Winston-Salem for a few years before taking a break to participate in a Cultural Service Trip, through Obey Foundation (Ghana, West Africa-December 2022). Upon returning to the U.S., Ms. Billups decided she wanted to utilize her knowledge, skills and abilities at her Alma Mater and eventually returned to JCSU's Campus Police Department before transferring to her current position as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.
