Biography
Dr. Ricardo Phipps is a Counselor Educator by discipline, specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. He earned the Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Mississippi and the M.S. in Counseling from Jackson State University. Prior to arriving at Johnson C. Smith University, Dr. Phipps served as Clinical Faculty at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Dr. Phipps is no stranger to North Carolina, having previously served as Provost and VP of Academic Affairs at Saint Augustine University. His research interests include immigrant trauma, the integration of religion and spirituality in counseling, and Black men’s mental health. Dr. Phipps also holds the MBA and M.Div., having spent many years in church/pastoral ministry.
