Biography
Micah J. Dobson, Ph.D., is presently a visiting assistant professor of Sport Management within the Department of Health and Human Performance at the College of Business and Professional Studies. His research focuses on creating sufficient after-school sports and recreational programs for at-risk youth, supporting the success of first-generation college athletes at HBCUs, mentoring young individuals in various organized sports, developing therapeutic recreation initiatives for children with special needs, and addressing gentrification in urban areas.
Dr. Dobson has extensively published and presented on these subjects and is a strong advocate for social recreation and inclusive programs in K-12 education. He consistently participates in conferences and professional development workshops. Dr. Dobson has been a member of the NCAA Graduate Student Research Grant External Review Panel and was selected to join the 2024 NCAA Division II FAR Fellows Institute. Additionally, he has taken a prominent role in the 2024 CIAA Post Graduate Scholarship Committee, which provides scholarships to CIAA student-athletes pursuing graduate studies. Moreover, Dr. Dobson is currently engaged in scholarly research (including book chapters and undergraduate textbooks/handbooks), acts as a reviewer for the Journal of Leisure Studies, and serves as an abstract reviewer for the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo.
Hailing from New York City, NY, Dr. Dobson is happily married to Taina Roman-Dobson and shares his home with a dachshund-Yorkie mix named Luke. In his free time, he enjoys traveling (domestically and internationally), boxing, running marathons and discovering new culinary experiences.
