
Joshua Nypaver is an accomplished digital communications leader with over 15 years of experience at Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU), where he currently serves as the Assistant Director for Digital Communications. Since joining JCSU in 2008, Joshua has played a key role in enhancing the university’s digital presence, being promoted from Webmaster/Assistant Print Shop Coordinator to Web Services Coordinator and eventually to his current leadership position in 2022.
During his tenure, Joshua has led numerous high-profile digital initiatives, including the complete revamp of the university website and the successful launch of JCSU’s social media platforms. He has also overseen the creation of special website content to showcase key university events like the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, Homecoming, and Commencement.
Joshua’s technical expertise includes web development, graphic design using the Adobe Creative Suite, and the production of multimedia content such as videos, animations, and infographics. He has produced drone photography, live-streamed major events, and developed analytics strategies to improve user engagement across various platforms. His work on projects like the Congressional Black Caucus Institute’s nationally promoted event during the Democratic National Convention is a testament to his capability in handling large-scale media projects.
In addition to his contributions at JCSU, Joshua has also been a Video Editor and Internet Content Editor at WCNC-TV, where he honed his skills in video editing, podcast development, and news content production. His ability to blend technical skills with creative strategy has been central to his success in both higher education and media environments.
Joshua has received multiple awards for his exceptional service, including the Moses S. Belton Award for Distinguished Administrative Service, the Lonnie T. Parker Pinnacle Award for Service, and the Trenchworker Award (twice), all recognizing his dedication and impact at JCSU.
A graduate of Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, Joshua is also deeply involved in his community. He has been a member of the Rock Hill Tree Commission since 2007, serving as a past chairman.
