Biography

Dr. Edwina Jackson is an Assistant Professor of Social Work and Teacher Advisor in the Bachelor of Social Work Program within the College of Business and Professional Studies at Johnson C. Smith University. In addition to being a social work instructor, she is a licensed master social worker in South Carolina and is currently pursuing her LCSW for clinical social work practice in the state of North Carolina.

Dr. Jackson is deeply committed to supporting student growth and academic success. Drawing on extensive experience in healthcare, community engagement, and organizational leadership, she mentors future social workers as they develop the skills, confidence, and professional readiness needed to effect meaningful change in the communities they serve.

Her work occupies the intersection of healthcare, community empowerment, and collaborative leadership, where she leverages her expertise as a scholar‑practitioner and medical social worker to promote community-based participatory research, health equity, strengthen rural community partnerships, and advance community‑centered solutions.

Dr. Jackson has presented at numerous national conferences, the South Carolina State Senate, and the Urban Institute, sharing her work on rural healthcare access, mental health, women’s health, community‑based participatory research, and diversity. Her research and clinical interests center on strengthening rural collaborations and improving access to quality care—efforts reflected in her creation of Healthcare Table Talk, a virtual platform designed to foster communication, collaboration, and shared problem‑solving among healthcare professionals, community leaders, and underserved populations.

Her commitment to community advancement extends beyond her academic work. Dr. Jackson serves on the boards of the Mildred S.M. White Foundation, Operation P.R.I.D.E., and the SIC Committee, contributing to initiatives that support families, promote equitable opportunities, and enhance community well‑being.

Dr. Jackson’s educational background includes an Ed.D. in Education and Organizational Leadership from Northeastern University, a Master of Social Work with emphases in Drug & Addiction Studies and Geriatric Care from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a minor in Sociology from Clemson University.
