Johnson C. Smith University Becomes Community Center for Coding and Creativity, in Collaboration with Apple and Tennessee State University
Today, in celebration of Computer Science Education Week, Johnson C. Smith University announced it will become a community center for Coding and Creativity as part of Apple’s Community Education Initiative and Tennessee State University’s HBCU C2 initiative designed to bring coding and creativity experiences to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and their communities.

JCSU hosts shoe distribution event serving more than 800 local families
Hundreds of people lined up to receive a pair of free shoes at Johnson C. Smith University Saturday, December 5, 2020. It was all a part of Charlotte Cares, an event created by non-profit Samaritan’s Feet aimed at distributing shoes across the community this holiday season.
Springfield presents research in preparation for her journey to earn her doctorate
This semester, McNair Scholar Aria Springfield ’19 presented her research at two different conferences, most recently at Rice University’s National Student Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas. Her research deals with the Lost Cause Narrative and it’s perpetuation through historical tourism in Charleston, South Carolina.

SYDKIMYL Partners with Johnson C. Smith University, hires 5 students as Educational Facilitators
This fall, SYDKIMYL partnered with Johnson C. Smith University to hire Educational Facilitators to serve K-12 students at CMS. Educational Facilitators serve middle and high school students who need support with social skills, educational training, and transitioning in school by providing counseling and instructional services. SYDKIMYL Educational Consulting, LLC provides a balanced approach to serving students both socially and emotionally while guiding them through their academic journey.
JCSU student earns STEM research experience with Davidson College
Awa Sore ’21, a double major in biology and chemistry, is getting a head start at her career as a doctor. She spent summer 2020 completing a virtual research internship with Davidson College.
