During the Oct. 10 volleyball game against Livingstone, multiple departments, including Athletics, Counseling Services, Campus Police, University Communications and Marketing and community health organizations came together to shed light on mental wellness for World Mental Health Day.

Professor teaches University history through community engagement

Residents of McCrorey Heights, one Johnson C. Smith University’s surrounding neighborhoods created by Dr. Henry L. McCrorey (class of 1893), former JCSU president 1907-1947, welcomed JCSU students and alumni to its community for a homecoming celebration. Smithites old and new enjoyed music, food and games October 5, 2019 after the Golden Bulls win against Lincoln University.

Charlotte enjoys Evening with Santa at JCSU

The holiday spirit was alive at JCSU during Residence Life and the Student Government Association’s “An Evening with Santa.”

The event, held Saturday Dec. 1, 2018, brought dozens of children and their families from nearby Bruns Elementary, Charlotte Bilingual Preschool and the surrounding neighborhoods to enjoy a culturally resonant evening with Santa, Mrs. Claus and JCSU students as Santa’s elves.

JCSU salutes veterans, hosts Coast Guard Appreciation Day

Johnson C. Smith University students celebrated Veteran’s Day by recognizing veterans and active duty military members with notes of appreciation. The university also hosted officers of the Coast Guard who introduced students to additional resources that can enhance their college experience.

'Tis the Season for Service

JCSU students have been giving back with gusto for the 2018 holiday season, via a series of community projects.  

On Nov. 11, 2018 students gave of their time and energy for Veterans Day with the Message in a Bottle campaign. More than 50 students showed up at the New Science Center to write messages of encouragement and support to local active-duty veterans. Landry Frison ’19, an active duty South Carolina National Guard, and Sameerah Williams ’19, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, also sat on a panel with members of the Coast Guard who came to speak to students about scholarship monies and opportunities for officer training school.
