Sport Management

Sport Management

The world of sports is an exciting and unique field. Because of its fast-pace and household names, it’s often glamorized by Hollywood in movies and TV shows.

Many students come into our programming thinking they want the fame and fortune of being a sports agent (popularized by movies like Jerry McGuire). However, you’ll find that our range of courses will open your eyes to careers in sport you never knew existed.

What will I study as a sport management major?

At JCSU, our courses in sport management emphasize “real world” knowledge that you can apply to your first job.

Courses such as sport finance and sport public relations prepare you to enter the business side of the industry. In addition, with a fundamental understanding of budgeting and event promotion, you’ll be able to support any sport organization you go into.

You classes will give you a behind-the-scenes view of sport in the areas of:

  • Sport finance
  • Sport marketing
  • Sport law
  • Professional team administration
  • Collegiate team administration

As a sport management major, you’ll be able to explore the inner workings of sport with an on-campus internship. You’ll work with different members of JCSU’s sport staff to help you narrow down your career path.

Where will I study sport management?

We believe that experience is an important part of your education. That’s why our sport management program places our students in on-campus and on-campus internships. On-campus you’ll shadow JCSU’s sport information director, our athletic trainers and our athletic director to get a behind-the-scenes look at sport administration.

We also emphasize the off-campus internship experience that the city of Charlotte has to offer. Our relationships with these local sport organizations will help you take your education out of the classroom and into the working world of sports.

On campus, your sport management courses will take advantage of our smart classroom technology. Through online videos and presentations, you’ll discover trends in the industry and understand the decision-making process in various sporting organizations.

What will I learn outside the sport management program?

JCSU is a private liberal arts university. What this means to you is that your education will broadly cover all areas of study. The diversity of your classes will help you look at “the big picture” in any career you choose.

  • Classes in computer science and communication arts will give you a definite advantage in the job market and workplace.
  • Taking several English and foreign language classes will help you interact with a global community that is getting smaller each day.
  • By taking math and science classes, you’ll have a better understanding of the world around you.
  • Health and physical education courses give you the knowledge to cope with everyday stress and lead a better, longer life.

Having a college education will give you the tools to succeed in life. Having a liberal arts education will give you the opportunity to take your success further.
