Steps to Completing Financial Aid

How to apply for Aid

The first step in applying for financial aid is to apply for your Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID). Once you have your FSA ID, you may complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is a federal government form that determines your eligibility to receive aid.

By submitting your FAFSA, you will automatically be considered for all types of aid, with the exception of the following:

  • Institutional Aid
  • Athletic Grant-In Aid
  • Choir and Band Scholarships
  • Alternative Loans

FAFSA Checklist and Tips

• Make sure to record your FSA ID and keep it handy.

• Johnson C. Smith University’s Title IV School Code is 002936.

• List everyone who lives in your household, including yourself.

• Dependent students should include income information for yourself and your parent(s).

• Independent students should include income information for yourself and your spouse, if married.

Since financial aid is limited, don’t wait until the deadline - apply early! The FAFSA is available December 1 until June 30 of each academic year.
