Scholarship Giving

Creating a
JCSU Scholarship

Scholarships can make the difference, not only in whether a student attends college, but also whether they remain in college.

Whether you are an individual, family, faculty member or alumni group, you can create a student scholarship or give to an existing scholarship fund. Your gift immediately improves the lives of students and encourages academic excellence.

President's Gap Scholarship Fund

We believe all deserving students should enjoy access to the opportunities they need to fully realize their potential. The President’s Gap Scholarship Fund provides emergency assistance for students who face significant financial barriers that result in gaps between the aid they receive and the total cost of their college educations.

Your support of the President’s Gap Scholarship Fund ensures a brighter tomorrow for our students. Here’s how your donation can have an impact:

• $150 pays for a STEM student’s lab coat
• $250 allows a student to work fewer work-study hours and focus on his/her studies
• $500 funds a portion of the cost of a standard meal plan
• $1,000 pays for a number of required books for a semester
• $2,500 secures on-campus housing for a student
• $5,000 helps to pay for a portion of the tuition cost for a semester

These are but a few examples of how you can help meet the needs of our students.

Endowed Scholarships

Your commitment to endow a scholarship will positively impact JCSU and our students for generations to come.

An endowed scholarship begins with an initial gift and becomes permanently endowed when the fund reaches $25,000. Full endowment must occur within a five-year period, and no awards are made to students until the $25,000 minimum level is attained. Once the scholarship is fully endowed, a percentage of earnings is awarded to students each year, while the principal is preserved and grows so that the scholarship will be awarded in perpetuity.

Establishing an endowed scholarship is one of the most enduring and meaningful ways an individual or organization can make a difference in the lives of JCSU students. As a scholarship benefactor, you may determine the general criteria by which recipients are selected, including department of study, year in school and specification of the scholarship based on academic merit or financial need. Scholarships can be named after the donor(s), in memory of a friend or family member, in honor of an organization and any other way you as the donor request.

Annually Funded Scholarships

Annually Funded Scholarships

Annually funded scholarships are also critical as JCSU strives to offer more students a quality education. With an annual gift of $3,000 for a minimum of three years, a donor may establish an annually funded scholarship in his/her name or in honor of a loved one. The awarding of these scholarships is based primarily on need.

Benefits of Scholarship Giving

• An investment in a student’s future, enabling talented and deserving scholars to gain the distinctive, lifelong benefits of a JCSU education
• An investment in society’s future, because at JCSU, our graduates acquire the combination of knowledge, abilities, outlook and values that will be required of tomorrow’s leaders
• An enduring donation, which provides a source of funding for future scholarship awards
• A personally rewarding opportunity to honor someone and build a connection with student recipients
