Foundation Giving

Johnson C. Smith University is proud to have a strong history of support from leading foundations across the United States.

An Investment in Excellence

JCSU is one of four universities supported by the Duke Endowment, a tradition that dates back to the 1950s. Other foundations that have supported the university include:

  • The Mellon Foundation
  • The Cannon Foundation
  • The William T. Morris Foundation

Their contributions have been instrumental in developing facilities, programs and projects that have transformed the educational experience at JCSU.

Foundation Grants

The generous support of foundations fund a variety of special projects and programs that have significant impact upon our students’ futures. Recent foundation grants include:

The Dowd Foundation of Charlotte - Granted $50,000 to support the second phase of renovations to the university's historic Carnegie Building, which now offices and classrooms associated with the university's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs.

The Cannon Foundation - Based in Concord, N.C., granted $50,000 for renovations to the university's 10 residence halls.

We welcome the opportunity to host your group or foundations on campus and demonstrate how your donation will generate returns you can be proud of.
