Master of Social Work Applicants

Application requirements

  • Online Admissions Application
  • $40 Application Fee
  • GRE Scores: Not Required
  • An undergraduate degree with a liberal arts foundation from a regionally accredited college or university or be in the final semester of completing their degree within the year of application
  • Official transcript(s): From all colleges/universities attended
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Personal statement:
    • A personal statement for the committee to gain greater insight as to who you are, why you have chosen to pursue a graduate social work education, and your readiness for graduate work. The personal statement should be in your own words and should be 3 to 5 double-spaced type pages in length.
  • References:
    • Three recommendations (at least 1-2 persons that can speak to your academics, others can be colleague, supervisor, etc.) Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. If you completed your undergraduate degree 5 or more years ago, then you may use character references (i.e., colleagues, supervisors, etc.) for all three references. However, we strongly recommend that you attempt to secure two academic references if possible.

International Applicants

The University welcomes admission inquiries from international students. International students should complete an admissions application three months before the beginning of the term (summer/semester) in which they intend to enroll.  

Application requirements

  • Submit Admissions Application and Application fee
  • Verification of graduation from high school or secondary institution
  • Official High School Transcripts/Certificate in English with translation certified
  • Official SAT/ACT or TOEFL scores. TOEFL scores (must be 525 or above)
  • Declaration of Certification of Finance, that sufficient funds are available to finance the planned course of study without causing undue hardship on the student.
  • A statement from the bank, lending agency or sponsor that stipulates the amount of money on reserve for tuition, fees and living accommodations to matriculate in a four-year undergraduate program in the United States
  • A transcript evaluation (with determined G.P.A.) from an accredited transcript evaluation agency in the United States

Re-Admit Applicants

Former students, we are glad you are interested in returning to finish what you started at JCSU. The following information is for your use as you reapply. A student who has withdrawn and who subsequently seeks readmission must submit an application through the Office of Admissions. Reentering students must receive notice of their approval before they can return to the University.

  • Application Fee is contingent on program
  • Non-degree students must have a high school diploma or equivalency to enroll in undergraduate courses
  • Non-degree students are responsible for meeting course prerequisites. 
  • Priority registration is reserved for Johnson C. Smith University
