STUDENT INTERNSHIPS SPOTLIGHT

Nygil Brown

Nygil Brown ’20 is interning with State Farm this summer thanks to a new initiative started by North Carolina Governor, Roy Cooper. The HBCU Initiative focuses on creating more opportunities for minority students by collaborating with companies, like State Farm, and 10 HBCU’s.

Brown, a business administration major with a concentration in finance, is learning a lot during his 8-week internship. “My responsibilities consist of underwriting needs for customer service related issues, outbound sales and marketing calls, determine outbound marketing schedule, and participate and assist with networking events.” He adds, “I believe student internships are essential because they allow you to gain experience and increase marketability for future employers. While school prepares you for the theoretical side of your field, internships allow you to have a hands-on experience with your desired career field.”
