Why Study at JCSU?

With the city of Charlotte in our backyard, JCSU is in the perfect location for students in our sport management program to find excellent internship and job opportunities.

Charlotte boasts NFL and NBA teams, as well as professional teams in baseball, soccer and hockey. Every year, Charlotte is also the host to the CIAA Basketball Tournament and the PGA TOUR Wells Fargo Championship. As a major in our program, the possibilities for a career in the Charlotte sport arena are endless.

We prepare you for success beyond the classroom.

Our sport management faculty members are deeply involved with our students, and they want to ensure that you find a rewarding career after graduation.

To prepare you for the job hunt, our professors work with you to perfect your resume and ensure you’re well-groomed for interviews. Professional development workshops in the program cover additional workplace topics, such as attire and email etiquette.

Research opportunities you won’t find anywhere else.

Our students have conducted research and have been published in the College Student Journal. As a major in our program, the opportunity to conduct your own research on a topic that interests you will be an accomplishment that shines on your resume or application to graduate school.

Topics of research our students have engaged in include:

  • “Sources of Stress Among African-American College Students”
  • “Arousal and Anxiety Among African-American College Students and Student-Athletes”

Personalized attention gives you the tools to succeed.

According to a recent survey, 100% of students enrolled in Department of Health and Human Performance majors believe that our faculty members were working to prepare them for success during their time at JCSU and beyond.

In addition, 95% of students felt well-prepared for opportunities outside the classroom, including graduate school, internships and careers.

Our faculty members are sincerely interested in our students’ goals and dreams for the future. We know each student by name and are always willing to support and strengthen their education at JCSU.

Get involved in on-campus activities and organizations.

As a major in our program, you’ll have the opportunity to socialize with your classmates in organizations like the:

  • Health and Human Performance Majors Club
  • Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity - a national professional fraternity for students who are pursuing careers in the fields of health and human performance

Why choose a liberal arts education?

College graduates with a liberal arts education are vital to our country’s progress.

According to an article from CNN.com, “Why liberal arts matter,” students who graduate from liberal arts universities have a distinct advantage. They will be able to look at any problem and find a creative solution, as well as new opportunities. Rather than a technical degree that focuses on one area, a liberal arts education combines the study of science and math with the arts and humanities.

At JCSU, we emphasize learning new technologies, in addition to different world views and cultures. We teach our students to ask “why?” and to look at any situation from a variety of angles.

Employees who think creatively and communicate well will always be in high demand. As a JCSU student, you’ll improve these skills with every course you take.
