What You'll Learn

In the BA in Dance at JCSU, you’ll reach a high proficiency in classical ballet, modern (Graham-based, Horton-based, and improvisational), and African-derived dance forms such as jazz, tap, and/or West African dance. You will also learn to care for your instrument through courses like dance conditioning, biology, and kinesiology. You’ll learn dance composition, and ground your technical development in the history of dance. Even beyond these things, you will learn to become an expert researcher, able not only to create and perform dances, but also to conduct scholarly research, write about it, speak about it, present it as an authority in the field, and respond to questions about it in a public forum. Your curriculum in Dance allows some customization, so that your personal interest in ballet performance, modern performance, or commercial jazz and tap performance can be pursued within the options presented here.
