Closure of main campus entrance and campus access

Starting on Monday, November 25, 2019, the main entrance gate on Beatties Ford Road will be closed to all vehicular traffic, due to construction.  Because of this significant closure, access to the campus should be gained by way of the Summit Avenue gate.  Driving instructions to the Summit Avenue gate from various directions are as follows: 

From Beatties Ford Road

  • Take Beatties Ford Road to Oaklawn Avenue
  • Make a RIGHT onto Washington Avenue
  • Travel on Washington Avenue ⅓ mile to Andril Terrace
  • Make a RIGHT onto Andril Terrace and travel ½ mile to North Summit Avenue
  • Make a RIGHT on North Summit Avenue
  • Cross the railroad tracks; the entrance is ¼ mile down on the RIGHT

From I-77 SOUTH

  • Take Exit 10C
  • Turn RIGHT onto 5th Street
  • Turn RIGHT onto North Summit Avenue
  • The entrance is ¼ mile down on your LEFT

From I-77 NORTH

  • Take Exit 10 to 5th Street
  • Turn LEFT onto 5th Street
  • Turn RIGHT onto North Summit Avenue
  • The entrance is ¼ mile down on your LEFT

From 5-POINTS INTERSECTION (West Trade / Rozzelles Ferry)

  • Travel Southeast on Martin Street to North Summit Avenue
  • Make a LEFT onto North Summit Avenue
  • The entrance is 25 yards on your LEFT

During this period of major construction, the campus community is encouraged to use caution while frequenting the campus, and the adjacent streets, on foot and by car.  The following precautionary measures are as follows: 

WALKING

  1. Utilize the buddy system while walking.
  2. Walk in well-lighted areas.
  3. Pay attention and be aware of falling debris and uneven surfaces.
  4. Keep your head up, looking for hazards 10 – 15 feet in front of you.
  5. Wear reflective clothing and make sure equipment operators can see you..
  6. Avoid distractions such as looking at your phone and listening to music.
  7. Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  8. Watch for posted warning signs.
  9. Keep a safe distance from construction workers and equipment.
  10. Remain hyper-vigilant.

DRIVING

  1. Watch for altered traffic pattern signage.
  2. Slow your speed as you approach and enter the construction zone.
  3. Remain hyper-vigilant and be prepared to stop immediately.
  4. Watch for police vehicles and detours.
  5. Watch for closed exits and entrances.
  6. Follow the course set by traffic cones, barriers, and instructions from flaggers.
  7. Keep a safe distance from construction workers and equipment.
  8. Keep your headlights on for increased visibility.
  9. Remain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you.
  10. Familiarize yourself with construction road signage.
