We understand that your family or friends may be uncomfortable sitting outside in the heat due to illness or age, and we will provide an alternative for them to watch the ceremonies from a remote location, rain or shine.
In the case of rain or inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved from the stadium into the Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium, but seniors will be limited in the number of family and friends who they can bring into the gym. Overflow crowds will still be able to watch the proceedings live from Biddle Hall Auditorium.
Disability Viewing Station
The Irwin Belk Stadium Complex is accessible for people with disabilities or wheelchairs, and JCSU staff will provide cross-campus shuttles to help those with difficulty walking to get from one location to the other.
We will also provide a reserved area in the stadium exclusively for those with disabilities.
In addition to these provisions, we have also reserved two viewing locations at the stadium (classrooms 145 and 146). These locations can hold a capacity of 60 people and they will be reserved for those with disabilities on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Apart from the at-stadium viewing locations, all other viewing locations are accessible by wheelchair or by those with disabilities.
Inclement Weather Location
In the event of inclement weather, the Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium will also be used as the Commencement exercises backup location. The seating capacity within the gymnasium is 2,450.
If the institution implements its rain backup plan, each senior will have the responsibility of determining which family members and friends will have access to the gymnasium. Each student will be given rain backup tickets following the rehearsal on May 14, at 10 a.m..
We will also provide additional viewing locations on campus so friends and family who are displaced in case of rain will still be able to view the Commencement exercises live.
