Counseling

Information disclosed in counseling sessions is deemed confidential and may not be released outside the Office of Counseling Services without written permission by the student. During the intake process, a professional counselor will provide a detailed explanation and documentation explaining the legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality.

The Office of Counseling Services provides confidential intakes and assessments, individual and group counseling and referral services to all students enrolled at Johnson C. Smith University.

Individual Counseling

To provide students the opportunity to speak with a professional counselor regarding personal and interpersonal issues that may be affecting and/or interfering with their daily activities. The Office of Counseling Services will provide one-on-one counseling where students can resolve problems, receive feedback, and develop effective coping strategies.

Group Counseling

To provide students an opportunity to share similar concerns, experiences, to learn and practice new ways of relating to others in a safe environment. Group focus topics can include but are not limited to anger management, academic success, stress management, and conflict resolution.
