Fifteenth Annual Ronald E. McNair
Scholars’ Research Forum

Five Johnson C. Smith University students participated in the
Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program on the
campus of UNC-Charlotte. The ten-week summer research internship
provided the students with an opportunity to develop research on
a topic of choice, while participating in workshops and seminars
designed to prepare them for GRE testing and doctoral studies.
In addition, students were afforded the opportunity to visit
graduate schools in North Carolina and participate in a
conference in Tennessee.
On Thursday, July 26th, SSS participants Wesson Claiborne,
Shana Collins, Rhashanda Haywood, and Ashley Hughes,
along with fellow Smithite Brittany Herbert presented research
on their respective topics at the culminating Research Forum and
Ceremony.
The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is a
another federally funded TRIO program designed to assist
participants in obtaining admission to doctoral degree programs
by providing undergraduate research experiences and other
scholarly activities that encourage the pursuit of graduate
study. For more information visit the program on the web at
www.mcnair.uncc.edu or JCSU’s contact, Dr. Ruth Greene at
