Eligibility
Purpose
The Student Support Services (SSS) program provides opportunities
for academic development, assists students with basic college
requirements, and serves to motivate students towards the successful
completion of their postsecondary education. The SSS program may
also provide grant aid to current SSS participants who are receiving
Federal Pell Grants. The goal of SSS is to increase the college
retention and graduation rates of its participants and facilitate
the process of transition from one level of higher education to the
next.
Participant Eligibility for Program Services
To receive assistance, students must be enrolled or accepted for
enrollment in at Johnson C. Smith University.
Low-income
students who are first-generation college students and students with
disabilities evidencing academic need are eligible to participate in
SSS projects. Eligible students interested in participating in the
program must complete the
SSS Information Data Form
and Student Success Plan to receive comprehensive services
offered through Student Support Services.
Participant Eligibility for Grant Aid
The Department of Education and Office of Federal TRiO programs
provides funds for students who are participants in Student Support
Services programs. These funds are intended to reduce the amount of
student loans that participants sometimes take to cover educational
expenses. Further, these funds are made available to help ease the
financial burden that might hinder a student’s academic progress.
To be eligible for direct grant aid funds, a Student Support
Services participant must meet requirements set by the
Department of Education.
In addition, the student must complete an
SSS Grant Aid Application
and meet requirements set by Student Support Services at Johnson C.
