Community Development

You'll find a strong sense of community inside and outside the historic gates of JCSU. Students, our university and Charlotte all benefit from working together to enhance the vitality and economic opportunities within the city.

Reach Beyond Campus

As a student, you'll experience firsthand how JCSU works to improve the community around the school. Our Center for Applied Leadership and Community Development not only develops future leaders, but also links current community leaders with the research and academic resources of JCSU.

Protecting and Revitalizing

The university has worked with campus and local resources to combat dating violence and other forms of violence against women. The university's investment in several housing, retail and academic projects in the Historic West End is sparking a multibillion-dollar redevelopment of the area, which serves as the western entrance to Charlotte's downtown area.

In addition to opening the Arts Factory, a visual and performing arts teaching facility, the university is pursuing other community partnerships for an off-campus bookstore, coffee shop and printing facility.
