NC)--Johnson
C. Smith University recently promoted Jeffery Smith as its
Interim Assistant Vice-President for Student Affairs.
Smith, 34, has worked at the university in various other
positions since January of 1999. He was first hired as the
Assistant Director of Admissions and later that year was
appointed Director of Admissions. He also was appointed in 2002
as the Director of Religious Life.
“I am very excited and honored to be extended this opportunity
at JCSU,” Smith said. “I plan on enhancing the quality of
student life by developing future leaders expanding excellence
and promoting accountability.”
As
JCSU’s new Interim Vice-President for Student Affairs, Smith
will be responsible for overseeing the Division of Student
Affairs which is comprised of Career Planning and Placement,
Counseling and Testing, Health Services, Residence Life, Student
Activities/Student Union, Campus Ministries, Judicial Programs,
Fraternities and Sororities. He has a B.A. in English from
Johnson C. Smith University. Smith also received a Masters in
Divinity from Johnson C. Smith University Theological Seminary.
Johnson C. Smith University President Dorothy Cowser Yancy said
the new appointment “will allow JCSU to move to the next level
in enhancing student life on campus.”
Smith has completed his coursework at Gardner Webb University
for a Doctorate in Ministry and is currently working his
dissertation.
