NC – April 15, 2004) – – In an effort to increase
research production of faculty members and to expand the
network of psychologists at Historically Black Colleges and
Universities, the Department of Psychology at Johnson C. Smith
University will host the first ever HBCU Psychology Research
Consortium Initiative Meeting, April 16th – 18th, 2004.
This effort is expected to increase the research production of
department faculty and students. Faculty representatives
from at least eighteen HBCU institutions will be in
attendance. They will be representing colleges and
universities from Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia,
Tennessee, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama,
and Texas, and North Carolina. The psychology research
consortium initiative is the brain-child of 1971 JCSU alumnus,
Dr. Curtis Branch, currently at the New York State Psychiatric
Institute at Columbia University. Dr. Branch will be working
with departmental members in developing and providing
leadership for the consortium research effort.
Dr.
Bertha Garrett Holliday, Director of the Office of Ethnic
Minority Affairs (OEMA) of the American Psychological
Association will be the guest luncheon speaker on Saturday,
April 17th, 2004 . The American Psychological Association (APA)
is the largest professional organization of psychologists in
the United States.
