(CHARLOTTE,
NC)--Johnson
C. Smith University officials named Daryl McNeill as its new
head football coach and assistant athletics director Monday.
McNeill is replacing former Golden Bulls Coach Tim Harkness.
This
is the second time McNeill has served as JCSU’s head coach
within the last decade. He initially worked for the university
in 1995 through 1997. He had a final winning season record of
7-3.
During
his earlier tenure at the university, McNeill was named Black
College Sports Page Co-Coach of the Year. He also led JCSU’s
football team to its first winning season since 1983.
“I
have been around the world and now I am returning home,”
McNeill said during Monday’s press conference. “My job now
is to make sure that we stay on the right track to be a
winning football team here at Johnson C. Smith University,”
he said. JCSU has just finished a 0-10 football season.
McNeill
comes to Johnson C. Smith University from North Carolina A
& T State University, where he served as the associate
head coach to their football team.
McNeill
has 21 years of coaching experience on Division I-AA and
Division II levels. He has coached football and basketball
teams in various roles at South Carolina State University,
Savannah State University, Tennessee State University and
Jonesboro Senior High School in Jonesboro, Ga.
He has a Master’s in Business and a Bachelor’s degree in
Business Administration. He obtained both degrees from South
Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C. McNeill is a
Seneca, S.C. native.
