JCSU Makes TOP 10 for Best Black
Colleges National List
September
28, 2007 - Johnson C. Smith has secured a top spot in U.S.
News & World Report America’s Best Black Colleges ranking
released today.
The national publication ranked JCSU 10 out of the more than 70
Historically Black Colleges and Universities that were ranked. This
is the first year that the national magazine has conducted such a
list for black colleges.
“We are pleased that U.S News & World Report has recognized
our outstanding academic programs and students by including JCSU at
the top of their list,” said Johnson C. Smith University Public
Relations Director Benny L. Smith. “This is the first time we have
received such an honor making the Top 10 list. This means that we
are the top school in North Carolina and the CIAA that is listed.
“This recognition goes hand in hand with our president’s (Dr.
Dorothy Cowser Yancy) vision and strategic plan for JCSU to become
recognized as one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation
where stellar graduates are produced,” Smith said.
Founded in 1867, Johnson C. Smith University offers 27 majors to
approximately 1,400 students. Each student is provided with a laptop
during the beginning of the school year providing them with complete
access to a campus-wide network and Internet through both wired and
