JCSU News Release

JCSU Students Make History by Becoming Co-Valedictorians at 2004 JCSU Commencement -May 9, 2004 
(CHARLOTTE, NC May 9, 2004)----For the first time in school history, JCSU will have co-valedictorians.  

Patricia Gillespie, a double major in biology and chemistry will be going to New York University to pursue a Ph.D. in environmental science, and Jihad Muhammad, a computer science major will attend a special patent co-op program with Wachovia in Charlotte before attending law school at Columbia University.   

Both earned a 4.0 G.P.A.   In addition, Ms. Gillespie is the granddaughter of JCSU Alum and this year’s Baccalaureate speaker, Reverend William Gillespie.  She will be a third generation JCSU graduate. She has an aunt who also graduated from JCSU. 

Muhammad is the third of a set of triplets who all attend JCSU. He also has a sister who attends the university. One of his brothers and his sister will also be graduating during this year’s commencement.
