CATO Corporation Donates $250,000 to JCSU
June
20, 2007 – The CATO Corporation of Charlotte,
N.C., has awarded Johnson C. Smith University $250,000 to
support The CATO Scholarship for Teacher Education at the
university.
“A donation such as this reaches far beyond the university
campus. The CATO Corporation is making it possible for JCSU
to prepare future teachers who will make a difference in
schools across the nation,” said Dorothy Cowser Yancy,
university president.
The Cato Scholarship offers assistance to financially
deserving JCSU students with an interest in pursuing teacher
education as a career. A preference is given to students
pursuing an elementary education major.
The Cato Corporation owns a chain of approximately 678
women's apparel stores in 22 U.S. states, primarily in the
South and Southeast, with more than 8,000 employees. It was
founded in 1946 and is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C.
