JCSU News Release

CATO Corporation Donates $250,000 to JCSU

JCSUJune 20, 2007 – The CATO Corporation of Charlotte, N.C., has awarded Johnson C. Smith University $250,000 to support The CATO Scholarship for Teacher Education at the university.

“A donation such as this reaches far beyond the university campus. The CATO Corporation is making it possible for JCSU to prepare future teachers who will make a difference in schools across the nation,” said Dorothy Cowser Yancy, university president.
The Cato Scholarship offers assistance to financially deserving JCSU students with an interest in pursuing teacher education as a career. A preference is given to students pursuing an elementary education major.
The Cato Corporation owns a chain of approximately 678 women's apparel stores in 22 U.S. states, primarily in the South and Southeast, with more than 8,000 employees. It was founded in 1946 and is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C.

JCSU consistently ranks among the top southern
  comprehensive colleges and universities as
reported by U.S. News & World Report.
