(CHARLOTTE,
NC)--Black
Enterprise Magazine has again named Johnson C. Smith University
as one of the Top 50 Colleges for African Americans.
“We are really excited to have this honor bestowed on our
university once again,” said Public Relations Director Benny
Smith. “We are pleased that Black Enterprise Magazine has
recognized our outstanding academic programs and students by
including JCSU on their list,” Smith said.
Johnson C. Smith University is only one of two HBCU’s in the
Carolinas listed this year. Last year, the national magazine
rated JCSU 36th on the list. This year, the school advanced
three places to take the 33rd spot. The rankings are listed in
the newly released October 2004 issue of Black Enterprise
Magazine.
This annual ranking is based on information provided by 482
college administrators. Daystar researchers reviewed five-year
graduation rates for African-Americans, the percentage of
African American undergraduate students, the school’s average
survey score for the schools academic and social environment.
Smith commented, “This recognition goes hand in hand with our
president’s vision and strategic plan for JCSU to become
recognized as one of the best liberal arts colleges in the
nation where stellar graduates are produced,” Smith said.
Founded in 1867, Johnson C. Smith University offers more than 30
majors to approximately 1,500 students. |
