JCSU PR Office Wins Regional Award
February
26, 2008 – Johnson C. Smith University won an
Award of Excellence for its 2006 “Application of Success”
President’s Report from the Council for the Advancement and
Support of Education (CASE) district competition. The Award
of Excellence was the top award given in the category
entered by JCSU, and the highest CASE award garnered by JCSU
to date.
“I’m very proud of our public relations team at JCSU. We’ve
shaped a dynamic and strategic plan to advance the
university’s reputation throughout the country. This award
confirms that we are staying true to our strategic goal to
be recognized as an outstanding liberal arts college with a
strong institutional identity,” said JCSU Public Relations
Director Benny Smith.
In addition to Smith, members of the JCSU Public Relations
Office include Teri Brooks, Kristene Kelly, and Yancy
Parker. Set?Communicate!, an educational brand marketing
firm in Charlotte, designed the publication.
The awards were announced at the CASE District III
conference in Atlanta, February 19, 2008. As the second
largest district in the CASE organization, District III has
more than 4,000 members from educational organizations
throughout the Southeast. CASE is an international
professional organization for education professionals who
work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising,
marketing, and other areas.
U.S. News & World Report recently ranked Johnson C.
Smith University as the 10th Best Black Colleges out of all
Historically Black Colleges in the nation. Founded in 1867,
JCSU flourishes as one of our nation’s oldest, academically
and technologically advanced liberal arts colleges.

in NC to receive regional accreditation.
