(CHARLOTTE,
NC)--Johnson
C. Smith University has named Dr. Magdy Attia as its James B.
Duke Distinguished Professor, the highest ranking professorship
at the university.
“Dr. Attia is most deserving of this honor,” said
Johnson C. Smith University President, Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy.
“His unparalleled success in scholarship, teaching and research
makes him a most deserving candidate.”
Attia will be completing his 15th year
of service with JCSU next month. He is Chairman of the Computer
Science and Engineering Department and also Director of the
Technology Center on campus. Attia received his doctorate
degree from Moscow State University in Moscow. He also received
both his master’s and bachelor’s degree from Ain Shams
University in Egypt.
Attia is spearheading innovative research with
the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to complete a
prototype millimeter camera designed to allow planes to land on
fogbound airport runways.
