NC)--National
Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice will stop by Johnson C. Smith
University to talk with students during a short morning program
on Sept. 13.Due to
security reasons and limited space, only a select diverse group
of students and faculty from our academic programs may attend
Monday’s event.
It is not open to the public. Rice will speak in the Jane M.
Smith Memorial Church on campus. Rice’s father, John Rice,
graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in 1946.
Rice is the first African-American to hold the position of
Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs,
sometimes referred to as National Security Advisor. She assumed
the position on Jan. 22, 2001. A professor of political science,
she served on Stanford University’s faculty, starting in 1981,
and served six-year tenure as provost.
Her long resume’ includes becoming a member of the Center for
International Security and Arms Control and a Senior Fellow of
the Institute for International Studies. She also is the author
of several books including and has written various articles on
Soviet and East European foreign and defense policy.
