Eytan Uslan |
Eytan Uslan—pronounced "Ay-tahn Yoo-slin"—is a
mild-mannered librarian at JCSU who enjoys showing students the
finer points of academic research. But when outside of the library,
Uslan is a highly in-demand ragtime pianist. Winning second place at
the 2005 World Championship of Old-Time Piano, Uslan wowed the
crowds with his dazzling arrangements of 1920s standards, ragtime
favorites and stride showpieces. Since then, he has continued to
earn recognition in the ragtime world, performing at the
International Scott Joplin Festival, Coon-Sanders Nighthawks Fan
Bash, the Tosco Music Party, and other festivals and events.
Originally from South Orange, N.J., Uslan studied classical piano
at Indiana University, where he earned a master’s degrees in
musicology and library science. During his college days, Uslan
accompanied "Full Frontal Comedy," an improv-comedy troupe that
staged live improvised musicals based on audience suggestions. Uslan
is currently a recipient of the North Carolina Regional Artists
Grant. His first CD, "Carolina Moon," will be released in December
2006. Return to Lyceum home page |
