John Fitch, III
Filmmaker and Educator

“Maxyme” is a short experimental narrative film.  It was filmed in Savannah, GA. in April 2004 with the assistance of three JCSU Communication Arts students – Indya Davis, Sitara Sadler and Michelle Sturdivant. The super 16mm film is based on a poem by New York artist Garren Smalls. Directed by Lisa Inserra and produced by John Fitch III (who also did the sound design), “Maxyme” examines an American man’s desire to connect with his estranged French girlfriend. Contemporary political and cultural issues resonate within the international context of the film. The film stars William Boyer, a Charlotte native who appeared in the Academy Award nominated film, “Cold Mountain”.

Lisa Inserra and John Fitch will conduct a question and answer session and discussion following the screening.

Lisa Inserra worked as a producer, director and actor in theatre and television productions for several years in New York City before receiving her Master of Fine Arts in Film and Video from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She was the resident director of Theatre Ensemble in New York and currently serves as president of the non-profit Vox Theatre Company. Inserra received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2003.

John Fitch III has worked in commercial television, sports broadcasting, documentary programming, public television, music videos, audio engineering, theatre and filmmaking as a professional, a student and an educator. He received a B.A. from Asbury College and a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Video from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Fitch has been recognized for his award-winning work in video art, experimental video, music video and sound design. His film, “Cell Phone” was an official selection at the 2004 Philadelphia Freedom Film Festival.  Fitch is a Professor at Johnson C. Smith University.
