Lyceum Series
The Lyceum Series of Johnson C. Smith University is one of the stellar lecture and performance series in the Charlotte area, offering programs of international stature. Although designed to enhance the education experiences of students at the university, all programs are free and open to the public.  As a student from Seattle said during the 1998-99 series, "Each time I go to a Lyceum program, I discover a different side of myself." Indeed, the series serves to enrich and challenge audiences with a wide range of ideas and emotions.

Required for graduation, students must attend eight Lyceum events during their tenure at the University, or an average of one event per semester.

Every day that Johnson C. Smith exists, we are making history; we are setting new paradigms for the future and we are becoming one of the strongest premier institutions in the nation.

—Dorothy Cowser Yancy, Ph.D.

President

The Lyceum Series of Johnson C. Smith University is one of the stellar lecture and performance series among small universities in the nation, offering programs of international stature. Although designed to enhance the education experiences of students at the University, all programs are free and open to the public. As Mr. Rosendo Felipe, Jr. of the class of 2008 wrote: “The Lyceum programs are very edifying.  They remind me why I am here!”  Indeed, the series serves to challenge students with a wide range of ideas and emotions, often introducing them to totally new experiences.
