The American Shakespeare Center, Staunton, Va., seeks to make Shakespeare, the joys of theatre and language, and the communal experience of the Renaissance stage accessible to all. By re-creating Renaissance conditions of performance, the ASC repertory of plays offers a better understanding of these great works and of the human theatrical enterprise. Known for its Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, the re-created Shakespeare indoor theatre provides a home for a full season of performances. In addition to the Blackfriars, the American Shakespeare Center Touring Company travels throughout the U.S. and abroad.

At JCSU, The American Shakespeare Center Touring Company presents Shakespeare’s first comic masterpiece, The Comedy of Errors. Written when the playwright was about 30, the comedy is a riotously zany farce about the confused identities of two sets of identical twins who were separated soon after birth, and years later happen to arrive in the same city, where no one knows that each has a twin - including the twins themselves.
